In order to realize it's mission of promoting the research and visibility of Northern Visual Arts the Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation seeks to collaborate with other organizations in the field of art. Current joint projects are the organization of seminars and exhibitions with our trusted longtime partner University of Lapland.

Seminar's theme this year was portraits as a form of public art. The event
was a collaboration between Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation, University of Lapland's
Faculty of Art, the Art Museum of Rovaniemi and Lapland Taike.

Textiles by a sculptor
Galleria Kopio, Rovaniemi. 23.02.2017

The exhibition exploring the little-known part of Sculptor Kari Huhtamo's
lengthy career, textile works, was realized in co-operation with the University
of Lapland's Faculty of Art.

The collaboration between Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation and the University
of Lapland's Faculty of Art continues. This time we also had other partners

Mia Hamari, Alma Heikkilä, Jaakko Mattila
The Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation realizes the second phase of the Northern
Artist-project in co-operation with EMMA, Espoo Museum of Modern Art. The project
consist of N = 000° exhibition series, a seminar and a publication. The
solo exhibitions focus on the work of Mia Hamari, Alma Heikkilä and Jaakko
Mattila. The publication highlights artists’ own views. In spring 2015 the interdisciplinary
seminar Battle at EMMA Areena will explore the concept of North further.

Relatio Artis

The collaboration between Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation and the University
of Lapland continues. This time we also had a new partner: the City of Rovaniemi.
Relatio Artis –seminar engaged established and acclaimed art professionals as
collaborative partners in an educational effort to enrich and encourage the
students interested in pursuing a career in the arts. The seminar was also a
tribute to the creative Northern spirit: this public offering contextualizing
the artistic process coincided with the opening of the House of Culture Korundi.

The first exhibition of the Foundation’s Northern Artist-project
was realized in co-operation with the Amos Anderson Art Museum. The first artist
of the triennial was Sauli Miettunen. The selection criteria fell solely on
the production of the artist: The esthetic nature of the works and their ability
to speak for themselves and enrich the viewer’s life with a positive surge of
energy.

2008 Northern Artist
Northern Artist –triennial project
The mission of the Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation is to promote the research
and visibility of Northern Visual Arts. In 2008 the Board launched the Northern
Artist–triennial project consisting of three exhibitions, that seek to
bring to limelight and to public conscience the works of Northern artists that
otherwise are overlooked or have unduly hard time to make their voices heard
in the Southern Finland and abroad.

2007 Seminars
Encounters
26.4.2007
Thee Encounters-seminar was arranged in collaboration with the
Faculty of Arts, University of Lapland. This free of charge event brought together
the established and applauded artists Kari Huhtamo, Kari Piippo, Lucien den
Arend, Jorma Hautala, Yrjö Kukkapuro and Antero Toikka and the fine art
students in the beginning of their careers.
